About Me

I am an engineering and technology leader with more than 20 years of experience building reliable platforms, leading engineering teams, and improving how technology organizations deliver value.

My career has spanned software development, database engineering, infrastructure, platform engineering, enterprise data platforms, and technical delivery. That breadth has shaped how I think about technology leadership: the biggest opportunities rarely exist within a single technology or team. They exist in the systems connecting them.

Today, my focus is increasingly on helping organizations improve those systems through DevOps, engineering flow, platform engineering, reliability engineering, automation, and AI-enabled software delivery.

My Journey

My career began in application and database support, where I developed a deep appreciation for how production systems behave under real-world conditions. That foundation led me deeper into database engineering, infrastructure, platform leadership, and eventually technical delivery across enterprise-scale data platforms.

Over time, I became increasingly interested in the systems surrounding the technology itself: how teams collaborate, how work flows through an organization, where friction develops, and how engineering practices influence speed, quality, reliability, and business outcomes.

That perspective naturally expanded my focus beyond any individual technology toward the broader challenge of building high-performing engineering organizations.

Today, I continue to work across enterprise data and technical delivery while focusing more broadly on DevOps, platform engineering, reliability, engineering performance, and the rapidly evolving role of AI in software engineering.

I’ve had the opportunity to lead engineering initiatives supporting complex, highly available enterprise environments, including:

  • Enterprise technology platforms serving thousands of financial instituations
  • Hundreds of database systems supporting mission-critical workloads
  • High-throughput, 24×7 production systems
  • Large-scale infrastructure modernization and optimization initiatives
  • Enterprise data engineering and platform delivery

Working at that scale reinforced a principle that continues to shape how I approach engineering leadership:

Technology scales only when people, processes, and platforms scale together.

Leadership Philosophy

I believe high-performing engineering organizations are built on systems rather than heroics.

The best leaders don’t create dependence. They create environments where people can succeed without them.

That means establishing clarity, reducing friction, improving flow, investing in automation, creating reusable capabilities, and giving teams the tools and autonomy to solve meaningful problems.

It also means continuously looking beyond the immediate problem.

Solving today’s incident matters. Building a system that prevents the next hundred incidents matters more.

Technology matters, but the systems that enable people to use it effectively matter even more.

Continuous Learning

Technology doesn’t stand still, and neither should technology leaders.

I continuously invest in expanding both my technical knowledge and leadership capabilities through industry research, books, professional communities, hands-on experimentation, writing, and formal education.

My interests increasingly sit at the intersection of engineering leadership, DevOps, platform engineering, enterprise data, and AI—particularly how these capabilities come together to create technology organizations that can adapt and improve continuously.

Writing is part of that learning process. It forces me to challenge assumptions, organize ideas, and turn experience and research into practical frameworks that others can use.

Outside of Work

Outside of work, I’m active in my local community through my church, volunteering, and F3.

Most importantly, I’m a husband and father to three wonderful children spanning two decades of life. One is off at college, while our youngest just joined the family.

Those roles continue to shape how I think about leadership, service, discipline, and building something that lasts.
