I am an enterprise data engineering and technical delivery leader with over 20 years of experience building reliable platforms, leading engineering organizations, and improving the way technology teams deliver value.
Throughout my career in financial services, I’ve led initiatives spanning database infrastructure, platform engineering, and enterprise data platforms. While my career began deep in SQL Server engineering, my focus has evolved toward the broader challenge of helping organizations build scalable platforms, modernize their data ecosystems, and improve the flow of software delivery.
Today, I lead technical delivery for enterprise data engineering initiatives, helping teams deliver reliable, scalable data solutions while continuously improving engineering practices, operational excellence, and business outcomes.
My Journey
My career began in application and database support, where I developed a deep appreciation for how production systems behave under real-world conditions. That foundation led to database engineering, platform leadership, and eventually technical delivery across enterprise-scale data platforms.
Over time, I became increasingly interested in the systems surrounding the technology itself—how teams collaborate, how work flows through an organization, and how engineering practices influence speed, quality, and reliability.
That perspective naturally led me toward modern data engineering, DevOps, platform engineering, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), where my passion now lies.
What I Focus On
Today, my work centers on helping engineering organizations build platforms and operating models that scale.
My areas of focus include:
- Enterprise data engineering and technical delivery
- Data platform modernization
- Databricks and modern cloud data platforms
- Platform engineering and internal developer platforms
- DevOps and engineering flow
- Reliability, observability, and operational excellence
- Engineering leadership and organizational effectiveness
Experience at Scale
I’ve had the opportunity to lead initiatives supporting enterprise platforms operating at significant scale, including:
- Enterprise data and database platforms serving thousands of financial institutions
- Hundreds of SQL Server environments supporting mission-critical workloads
- High-throughput, 24×7 production systems
- Large-scale infrastructure modernization and optimization initiatives
- Engineering organizations delivering enterprise data capabilities
These experiences reinforced a simple principle: technology scales only when people, processes, and platforms scale together.
Leadership Philosophy
I believe high-performing engineering organizations are built on systems rather than heroics.
The best leaders don’t create dependence—they create environments where engineers can do their best work.
That means reducing friction, improving engineering flow, investing in automation, building reusable platforms, and giving teams the autonomy to solve meaningful problems.
Technology matters, but the systems that enable engineers to succeed matter even more.
Continuous Learning
One of my core values is continuous learning.
Technology evolves rapidly, and I believe great engineering leaders must evolve with it. I regularly invest time in expanding both my technical knowledge and leadership skills through books, industry research, professional communities, hands-on experimentation, and formal education.
Whether exploring modern data platforms, engineering leadership, DevOps, or organizational effectiveness, I’m always looking for better ways to build systems, develop people, and help teams deliver more effectively.
Outside of Work
Outside of work, I’m active in my local community through my church, volunteering, and F3—a men’s leadership organization centered around fitness, fellowship, and faith.
Most importantly, I’m a husband and father to three wonderful children spanning two decades of life. One is off at college, while our youngest just joined the family. Those roles continue to shape how I think about leadership, service, and building something that lasts.
Writing & Sharing
I write about engineering leadership, engineering flow, enterprise data platforms, DevOps, platform engineering, and modern software delivery.
My goal is simple: to share practical lessons that help engineering leaders and teams build systems that deliver value more effectively.
